HOST Policy Research: Our Services

Process Consulting

Policy researchers - and consultants - are only as good as their ability to draw on, and apply, practical experience alongside their research and review skills. Here, HOST is noted for its unusual combination of high quality research and practitioner expertise. All of HOST’s professional staff have past experience as practitioners, and managers of practitioners, and also as advisers and/or programme managers in the public sector. This experience provides for particular expertise in research or consulting assignments which call for a high level of process consulting skills.

HOST’s process consultancy has been applied to organisational and programme development (and review) in areas as diverse as advice and guidance, community development, mainstream compulsory and post-compulsory education (including teacher education), employee relations, health and social care, human resource management, international development, and public employment services. Our process consulting model helps us to spot and identify effective practice, innovation, operational ‘pinch’ points, delivery enablers and constraints, and how these work in many different organisational settings. Process consulting may be commissioned as a stand-alone service, perhaps to support policy review or organisational (self) assessment, but is also commonly a part of case study or exemplar research in our wider commissioned studies.
