Qualifications and Skills Change

Ensuring that the current and future workforces have the necessary skills and knowledge will always be a challenge for policy makers, regulatory bodies, sector skills councils and awarding organisations and providers. Changes to the qualification system such as the introduction of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), the proposals in the Wolf Report into 14 to 19 qualifications, and current funding constraints all make this a particularly challenging time for those involved in the skills agenda. It is more imperative than ever that decisions are based on robust evidence of need and impact.

HOST’s research and evaluation services continue to make an important contribution at all levels – European, national, regional, sub-regional and sectoral – in providing the robust intelligence and analysis needed to rise to this challenge. In the last 10 years in particular this has been an important focus for HOST’s work with government departments, non-departmental agencies, regional development agencies, Awarding Organisations and others.
