HOST Code for conducting business
Developed from Business and the Buddha: Doing well by doing good by Lloyd Field, Wisdom Publications, 2007
The aim of this code is to continuously strive to work towards bringing compassion into business and to underpin our business activities with the following set of intentions.
Cause no harm
- We are continuously mindful of our intensions and contribute positively to the making of “better communities” among our internal and external stakeholders through education and support.
- We conduct business in a spirit of partnership, with a solid belief in respect and decency.
- We are committed to self-knowledge and development and respect all individual differences.
- We appreciate that change is inevitable.
- We have a passion for the services we provide.
- We aim to not acquire any raw materials, or design, manufacture, or sell any products or services, the doing of which will be harmful to beings or the environment.
A charter for employees, associates and clients
- Respect our diversity and our need to be involved
- Respect our need for skill and personal development
- Respect our need for a healthy and supportive workplace
- Respect us by showing leadership based in trust, wisdom, and
compassion.
Trustworthiness in project direction
- Credibility and Honesty: The project director should demonstrate honesty and openness in all dealings.
- Dependability: The project director should do what they said they would do unless clearly explaining why. Thus supporting team members.
- Predictability: The project director should be consistent in ensuring open communication and following the idea that employees and team members, just like project directors, do not like surprises.
- Emotional and Physical Safety: The project director should value everyone’s health (physical and emotional), self-image, abilities and diversity with compassion and wisdom.
“The research and evaluation on the pilot is rigorous and thorough and so valuable to (the client) and the system, and I really appreciate how you responded to the amends we asked for and your willingness to engage in positive challenge and discussion with us.”
