Susan Lanz
Susan is a an experienced skills and labour market research consultant within over 15 years’ experience in the post compulsory education and training sector. She is a graduate of Nottingham Trent University and holds a degree in Social Sciences and a Postgraduate Certificate in Social Science Research Methodology.
Following her degree, Susan has developed considerable expertise in researching the education and training sector, having worked for many organisations responsible for skills and economic development at a local and national level. She has worked in a research capacity for the Learning & Skills Council National Office, Lantra, Leicestershire County Council, and Jobcentre Plus (formerly the Employment Service). Susan’s experience of research and project management dates back to the mid 90s when she first began working for the Employment Service conducting research on behalf of the Regional Director (and the senior management team) for the East Midlands and Eastern Region.
Since 2004, Susan has been a freelance research consultant, and has been a HOST research Associate since early 2007. Much of her work has focused on the improvement of post-compulsory training and education provision within the UK, and she has been involved in a number of high profile research projects, including the project team that developed the first National Employer Skills Survey in 2003, the LSC lead for the creation of the first set of national employment projects ‘Working Futures’, and she managed two publications of Skills in England on behalf of the national LSC.
Since being an independent research consultant, Susan has worked with a range of different organisations at a national (SSDA/UKCES, SSCs, LSIS), regional (RDAs), and local level (Local LSCs, local Employment and Skills Boards, District Councils). Her experience includes education and skills provision mapping, economic and labour market assessments, survey data analysis, project evaluation (large and small scale), employment and workless research and strategy development, provision mapping and consultation, and migrant impact research in local areas and regions.
Susan lives in Lichfield with her husband and young daughter. She enjoys walking, cycling, reading and the theatre (when she gets the chance).
