Simon Bysshe
Simon Bysshe is an experienced independent researcher and consultant, with a particular interest and expertise in career development, lifelong learning, social inclusion, and workforce development issues. He is a corporate member of the Institute of Career Guidance (ICG), and has served as the UK's National Correspondent for the International Association of Educational and Vocational Guidance (IAEVG). Beyond his first degree at Cambridge, he holds post-graduate qualifications in education and career guidance respectively from the University of Sussex and Birmingham Polytechnic.
From 1975 to 1985, Simon pursued a varied career in education and the Careers Service. He subsequently took up a senior operational manager post in Cambridgeshire Careers Service. Here, he was responsible for service delivery in North Cambridgeshire, and in a matrix management structure for Careers Service work in employer services and equal opportunities issues, county-wide.
Since establishing his consultancy in 1990, he has developed and delivered projects on his own, and with associates, with a diverse and growing client base. Since 1995, he has acted as a Project Director and Senior Associate for HOST Policy Research, leading national and European project teams. Recent projects undertaken with HOST include interviewing mentor/mentee pairings as part of the evaluation of the High Quality Managers (HQM) programme for LSIS and leading a major year-long project for LSC West Yorkshire considering best practice in tackling NEETs.
Outside work, Simon is involved in theatre work, acting with the Shoestring Theatre Company in Stamford, and has also worked for several years as a volunteer with Peterborough Soup Kitchen. He is married with three children, and he and his bank manager are looking forward to the youngest graduating in 2009!
