Valerie Rowe

Valerie Rowe is a policy researcher and evaluator in the fields of learning, HR and planning, who also has extensive experience of commissioning research. She operates both as an independent consultant and as an external associate of commercial and academic consultancy/ research groups. She is a member of the Association of Qualitative Research, and has been a HOST Associate for 13 years.

Valerie began her career in the Careers Service, moved to the Civil Service and then emigrated to Sweden where she took a post at the University of Uppsala, returning to the UK in the 1980s to join the Manpower Services Commission, working on a range of development programmes. Subsequently, as the Research Manager at Devon and Cornwall TEC, she collaborated with Local Authorities, business, government departments and all levels of education on research and development projects related to the economy of the sub-region. She was a partner in a consultancy company for three years which advised Local Authorities and County Councils on research and development strategies.

Valerie has worked on numerous policy research/evaluation studies and consultancy projects throughout the UK for public and private sector organisations, including DIUS, DTI, the Home Office, the National Assembly for Wales, Health Service, national, regional and local LSCs, County Councils, HE/FE, regeneration companies and Sector Skills Councils. She has conducted research and evaluation studies for private sector organisations in financial services, the food industry and in the tourism sector and has also worked extensively for Business Link.

Valerie is married with two grown-up children. She likes music, ballet, tennis, cricket and poetry, but her passion is horse racing.
