Simon Bysshe
Simon Bysshe is an experienced independent researcher and consultant, with a particular interest and expertise in career development, lifelong learning, social inclusion, and workforce development issues. He is a corporate member of the Institute of Career Guidance (ICG), and has served as the UK's National Correspondent for the International Association of Educational and Vocational Guidance (IAEVG). Beyond his first degree at Cambridge, he holds post-graduate qualifications in education and career guidance respectively from the University of Sussex and Birmingham Polytechnic. From 1975 to 1985, Simon pursued a varied career in education and the Careers Service. He subsequently took up a senior operational manager post in Cambridgeshire Careers Service. Here, he was responsible for service delivery in North Cambridgeshire, and in a matrix management structure for Careers Service work in employer services and equal opportunities issues, county-wide. Since establishing his consultancy in 1990, he has developed and delivered projects on his own, and with associates, with a diverse and growing client base.
Since 1995, he has acted as a Project Director and Associate for HOST Policy Research, leading national and European project teams. Recent projects undertaken include being involved in a European-wide review for CEDEFOP of socially-responsible restructuring within companies.
Alongside his work with HOST, for the past two years he has acted as a Visiting Research Fellow with the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES). This work has included conducting national research and consultation work regarding the use of new technologies in supporting career guidance and undertaking GB-wide good practice research into the use and sharing of career-related labour market information (LMI).
