Dorothy Berry-Lound, FRSA, is founding partner and Managing Director of HOST Policy Research.

Since 1986, Dorothy has been extensively involved in the development of HOST as an independent evaluation and policy research body. She has directed, or been involved in, various projects concerning the evaluation of aspects of skills and employment policy, in particular the evaluation of various programmes aimed at encouraging innovation within education and training providers. Much of this has had a strategic focus and has included evaluations and impact assessments of training programmes.

Dorothy is an acknowledged authority in applying intensive survey and case study methodologies to strategy studies in the learning skills sector. She has developed HOST’s reputation for robust, high response, self-completion postal and e-surveys of employers, individuals, training providers and other educational institutions. She has developed particular expertise on infrastructure and skills development policy in sector skills training, and also on novel approaches to lifelong learning (particularly amongst disadvantaged adults) and associated qualification developments.

As Managing Director of HOST, Dorothy enjoys a range of management responsibilities, including overall responsibility for HOST’s various client framework agreements and she maintains an active role in the design and co-ordination of projects. A qualified trainer, she is responsible for staff and Associate development, and acts as mentor to HOST Associates in relation to various aspects of project direction and methodological expertise. She is responsible for overall quality control and acts as an internal referee on all research outputs prior to submission to the client. She is currently developing a series of training modules for HOST Associates and others.

Dorothy is a practising Buddhist, and outside of HOST runs her own healing practice. She is an artist, author and tai chi instructor.
